SA Geodata is the Department of State Development's primary corporate geoscientific data repository and captures mineral exploration data derived by industry reporting requirements and government exploration programs since the 1850s.

The Quick or Advanced search options contain drop down boxes or auto fill capabilities (list filters as you type).

Note:note_icon_blue Drillholes may layers do need to be turned on to access SA Geodata drillhole data via SARIG.

SARIG offers two ways to search and access Drillhole Datasets:

1. Identify tool, located in the Menu Toolbox under the Search/Identify drop-down.

For more information on how to use SARIG Help Identify Tool

2. Drillhole and Online Core Inspections located in the Menu Toolbox under the Database drop-down.

Note:note_icon_blue The Identify tool and Database-Drillhole-Advanced Search require the user to draw a defined area of interest (box drawn on the map).Due to large datasets the Drillhole user-defined area is restricted to the equivalent of 2 degrees longitude x 2 degrees latitude.

Quick search

Drillhole Quick Search is located in the Menu Toolbox under the Database, Drillhole and Online Core Inspections drop-down as shown in image below.

The Drillhole Quick Search allows a state-wide search using the most common drillhole searching criteria.

Drillhole Number: SA Geodata auto-generated number

  • Drillhole Name: original drillhole name
  • Commodities: drillhole commodity target eg. gold
  • Drill Type: original recorded method of drilling eg. aircore

When the Quick Search option is selected from the Main Toolbox menu a new internet browser tab will open and display the  Drilhlole Database Quick Search Form.

Enter in quick search criteria then click the Search Button. Once the search button is clicked the Drillhole Search Results form will open.

Database wildcards are not required. Where possible drop down list and auto fill capabilities are provided.

For more detailed searching criteria click the Advanced Search, blue hyperlink located at the bottom of the quick search form.

Advanced map search

Drillhole Advance map search is located in the Menu Toolbox under the Database, Drillhole and Online Core Inspections drop-down as shown in image below.

When the Advanced map search option is selected from the Main Toolbox menu a new Map based database search widget will display on the SARIG map.

Map based database widget

The Map based database widget will default to Drillhole/core inspections selection, draw an area of interest of the map (search area limited to 2 x 2 degrees).

Once the area of interest has been drawn the Results widget will display on screen, Click the  Drillhole Search header highlighted in blue. A new internet browser tab will open displaying the SA Geodatabase - Drillhole Advanced Search form.

The Drillhole Search Results form returns a list of all drilholes available in the area of interest drawn filtered by options provided  in the advanced serch form.

In addition it provides users with:

Drillhole Details : Click the magnify glass image or the drillhole Number (blue hyperlink) to view the drillhole details. Driilhole details include, location, Stratigraphy, Lithology, Core Details, Spectral Scanning and reference information.

  • Drillhole Summary and Drillhole has: Drillhole data and data indicators of drillhole data stored in SA Geodata
  • Export results to excel: Click the Export to results (blue hyperlink), downloads the drillhole search results table.
  • Download results: Click the Download results data package to view package type. If download button is greyed out (not available you have exceeded the maximum number of records (2500), please refine your searching criteria.

Select a Download Package, then click the download button.

  • Number of Records Returned:Number of records return for the searching criteria, in the example below four records have returned.
  • Submission of Core Inspection where Drillhole has Core Available

Note:note_icon_blue Click on the drillholes search results to sort fields, an arrow will appear below the heading to indicate which field data is sorted by.

Drillhole details

The Drillhole Details comprised of 8 tabs displaying data captured in SA Geodata:

  • Details: Collar, Survey and general drillhole details
  • Location: Drillhole Coordinates and MapSheet data
  • Stratigraphy: Drilling stratigraphy interval logs
  • Lithology: Drilling lithology interval logs and description, may contain more than one log click the Select (blue hyperlink) to view log.
  • Petrophysics: Petrophysical interval log, ie magnetic susceptibility and specific gravity.
  • Core Details: Core intervals, location of core, previous inspection and sample record flags.
  • Spectral Scanning: Hylogger core scanner images and results.
  • References: Links to Publications and Reports database where drillhole was originally reported.

The Drillhole Details form also provides SA Geodata - Database Information Downloads, this includes an Explanation of the Stratigraphic Map Symbol and GIS code System document.
