In June 2014 Termite Resources NL (Termite), the entity which owns the Cairn Hill mine, appointed Ferrier Hodgson as Administrator (appointed Liquidators).

In December 2014, Ferrier Hodgson advised the Department of State Development (DSD) that a conditional sale agreement was executed with a buyer.

DSD is working with the new owner, Cu-River Mining Australia Pty Ltd, as they work towards the recommencement of mining operations at Cairn Hill.

The deposit The Cairn Hill ore bodies occur within deformed Paleoproterozoic iron-rich sediments in the Mount Woods Inlier in the northern Gawler Craton.

Approval process

Mining lease granted April 2008. Revised MARP (now deemed a PEPR) approved November 2008. Mine commenced production in December 2010.

Note: Amendments to the Mining Act 1971 which came into force on 1 July 2011 replaced mining and rehabilitation programs (MARPs) with programs for environment protection and rehabilitation programs (PEPRs). Previously approved MARPs are now deemed to be PEPRs.
